    About the Faculty:

Faculty of Law was established in 1995. From its foundation, it employs the best scientists of the republic. This caused the highest level of future lawyers’ training and made the prestigious education at the Faculty.

Staff potential of the Law Faculty currently is 15 Doctors and 40 PhD in Law.

The Law Faculty consists of 8 departments: “Theory and History of the State and Law”, “Civil law and Procedure”, “Business Law”, “Financial law”, “Criminal Law and Procedure, International and European Law”, Constitutional law”, “Municipal Law”.

The Law Faculty departments of the central institute in Kazan supervise the preparation of legal professionals in 6 branches and offices of the institute (in the cities of Naberezhnye Chelny, Almetyevsk, Nizhnekamsk, Bugulma, Chistopol, Zelenodolsk).

Currently, training of lawyers is on the four specializations: «Civil Law», «Criminal Law», «Financial Law» and «International Law”. In the frameworks of preparation for the professions students are presented special courses, taking into account the needs of present time, federal issues and regional characteristics of the republic.

The Faculty has active scientific research activities. There are work scientific circles in different branches of law in every law department, which are headed by leading scientists. Lecturers, postgraduates and students participate not only in all-Russian, but also in international scientific conferences, win awards, receive diplomas in law contests and competitions of scientific works.
To deepen the theoretical and practical skills, Moot courts are held at the Faculty based on real criminal and civil cases.

Six professors of the Faculty are members of a range of Dissertation Councils. Most of the lecturers are official opponents for Doctor and PhD dissertations, prepare reviews of dissertation abstracts.
Annual scientific conference is held on the basis of the Faculty, at the beginning of it a book of materials is prepared. Twice a year scientific-practical conferences of students and postgraduate students are held.

In the course of training students of the Law Faculty undergo training, internship and pre-graduation practice. The bases of their implementation are the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, Tatarstan Public Prosecutor's Office, Ministry of Justice of Tatarstan, the Association of Lawyers of the Republic of Tatarstan, Tatarstan Administration for Antimonopoly Policy and Support of Entrepreneurship, District Courts, the Supreme Arbitration Court of Tatarstan, city and district administrations of the Republic of Tatarstan, the various organizations (JSC “Nijnekamskneftechim’ , “Tatenergo”, “Tatenergosbyt” etc.).

Students get practical skills in the field of the law application at the Law Clinic established at the Faculty in order to provide free legal assistance to the poor people. The work of the Clinic is led by the qualified lecturers with an extensive practical experience. Students actively work in the clinic, and meet with real problems of legal practice, applying the acquired knowledge. They form professional and personal qualities of prospective lawyers. In addition, clinical studies have an important social function, as they ensure the right of poor citizens to get qualified legal assistance.

Another direction to improve the quality of education is the application of new information technology of training, development of material basis. In recent years the Institute has developed the distance learning using modern information technologies. This allows students to work individually with lecturers, tutors, talk to them at a distance on-line via the Internet in forums and chat rooms, participate in video conferences, they use case-technology and the base of electronic textbooks created at the Institute. We pay a lot of attention to learning of foreign languages by lawyers: in the era of globalization and increasing of international contacts, it is necessary. This allows to prepare competent lawyers in the field of international law.

At the Department of “Criminal Law and Procedure” there is a forensic laboratory which has required special equipment and a separate room for practical classes in criminology.

In 2003, at IEML were opened postgraduate courses. Currently, training of researchers at the Faculty are held in five specialties, there are training more than 120 postgraduate students and applicants.

At the faculty 66 research themes are approved, including the 44 basic and 22 application themes.

The teaching staff of departments at the faculty has considerable scientific potential. For example, in 2006-2007 there were published about 40 monographs and scientific journals, totaling more than 400 printed pages. Among them, the monographs by Baranov Y. (Books by our scientists).
Every year, teachers of the Faculty participate in conferences, presenting scientific reports. Just in 2006-2007, they have published over 350 articles (totaling about 120 pp) in the proceedings of such conferences.

First published in the Republic of Tatarstan «Law book for secondary schools» (the base and profile levels in electronic and paper version) is the collective result of the work of our Faculty.
The Faculty is working closely with representative bodies, executive and judicial authorities in order to better integrate theoretical knowledge with practice taught at the Faculty and identify the most relevant themes for students’ research activities. Leading lawyers of the Republic had speeches at the faculty: Prosecutor of the Republic of Tatarstan K.F. Amirov, Head of personnel of the prosecutor's office V.G. Timofeev, Justice Minister Kurmanov M.M. and others. We include practitioners in the state certification committee; determine them as heads of graduation projects. Major public figures and statesmen of the republic have classes with students. Among them, the Deputy of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan, PhD in Law Loginov V.P., Deputy of the municipality education of Kazan, Ph.D. in Law Rybushkin N.N. Several faculty members combine teaching with work in the organs of the Lawyers Association, legal departments of various organizations. The Faculty lecturers often serve as consultants and experts in various organizations or individuals in solving important legal issues.

Many of the graduates, they are more than 1000, work in senior positions in various law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Tatarstan and beyond. In the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tatarstan and at the Apparatus of Magistrates there are 29 graduates of the Institute of Economics, Management and Law and 2 employees combine work and study at the correspondence department of the Institute. Over 20 of the most gifted graduates have stayed at the Institute on teaching, and many of them have defended their dissertations.

For high-quality training the Law Faculty of the IEML has its own building of total area of more than one thousand square meters, with modern classrooms, two of them are equipped with multimedia for interactive and communicative teaching of lawyers.

We have six branches and representative offices in all major cities of the republic, and each of them is also placed in their own buildings. Computer classrooms, language laboratories for foreign language learning, multimedia projectors, microphones and speakers in the classrooms - all this are the things that have become for us an integral part of the learning process. Our school was the first in the Volga region to introduce modern corporate data network, which allows to establish a constant relationship between the central institute and branches via IP-telephony, video conferencing, and using a variety of other technical possibilities.

The achieved level of the Faculty training and research is high. The Law Faculty is developing, it withstood the test of maturity and has high scientific, creative and human potential to solve the most difficult tasks in the educational, scientific and legal fields.
